When you think it’s cheap…and then you realise it actually is cheap.

It took me until I was in my early 30’s and  the first signs of aging started to creep in before I took an interest in price vs quality. I was happy enough with my supermarket bought skin care products, make-up and various other health care/beauty products. I fell into the trap that buying cheaper was smarter. Smart for my bank balance, but not smart for my skin!

I wasn’t aware that cheaper meant cheap, that manufacturers filled products with synthetics, stablisers and talc powder, many of these were added so they could be manufactured inexpensively and prolong their shelf life.

For years I suffered from tiny white bumps around my eyes called milia and broken veins only made worse by using cheap skin care products. I don’t see it as spoiling myself spending extra on quality skin care products and a good skin care routine – I see it as an investment now I’m in my mid-40s.

The same goes for any investments I make with essential oils, recently a friend of mine purchased an essential oil for 3 euro. Yes, the packaging was fab, yes, the label said 100% essential oil, but once she opened that bottle, well how can I describe it? Let’s just say the words potent and vile came to mind.

Hannah, if you are reading this, this is not the Neal’s Yard essential oil you sent me for my birthday – that is divine 😉.

So, why pay more for an essential oil like DoTERRA?
No Regulation: The Essential oils industry is not regulated, any manufacturer can say on the label it is 100% essential oil, it could contain just 1% of an essential oil. doTERRA created its own testing process, calling it CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®. Do not ingest: Most essential oils warn against taking them internally and for the very reason that they are more than likely full of chemicals/fillers. Many of doTERRA’s oils can be ingested and not only add flavour to water and food, but also have additional benefits such as Vitamin C and calming properties.

I hope I’m not boring you! but these are always the points I make as ‘eye-openers’ for people who are reluctant to pay prices that reflect the high quality that is put into each pure bottle of essential oil from doTERRA.

 

The Modern Parent’s Medicine Cabinet

Do you remember your Mammy’s Medicine Cabinet ? (not to be confused with the hostess drinks trolley).  It conjures up some great memories for me, especially the flat Lucozade and tea with toast.  One thing that is missing is that lovely kiss on the forehead too!

But seriously while many of you probably still use some of the stuff in Mammy’s cabinet, there are a growing number of mums and dads who are tackling everyday family health issues in a different way. What I love about tackling my family’s health issues by using essential oils is that you can’t really get it wrong, and I know this might sound like a power trip, but I do feel happy that I can perhaps control an ailment before it goes too far down the road and I end up calling the doctor.

I’ve pulled out five of my top family oils that I have used for the past few months, and I can stand by these and actually admit they helped me through some tough situations.

• Settling stomachs (Peppermint)
• Soothing grazes (Melaleuca – not to be confused with the honey)
• Relief from ear ache (Melaleuca)
• Reducing coughing and sniffles at night through diffusing (Breathe Blend and Peppermint and Onguard Blend)
• Keeping the immune system in check once we are over the worst (Onguard Blend)

I’m in the middle of tackling some flu symptoms at the moment too, so the  Onguard blend with it’s strong mix of clove, cinnamon, orange, eucalyptus and rosemary is my staple.

In terms of cost?  I wish I invested in the Family Physician kit, but when I started using doTERRA products, I wasn’t 100% confident that I needed them (I was wrong).

So I bought the above five 15 mil bottles for 139 euro in total (add 25% on that price if you don’t sign up for a wholesale account).  In hindsight, I wish I’d purchased the kit you get 10 oils in 5 mil bottles at 129.15 euro.  And if I purchased it when I created my wholesale account I would have saved on my enrolment fee too!

I had family visit this weekend and yes two of them ended up on my kitchen table. Before I continue with this blog I just want to emphasise that at no point when I have guests do I put my essential oil hat on and bang on about their benefits (that usually only happens after a few glasses of wine). Seriously though for fear of putting off my friends and family, I only offer advice when asked or I just can’t help myself 😉

Anyway, back to the kitchen table. They asked about oils for neck pain, caused by occupational stresses, because both were close family members I offered them an aromatouch session on the kitchen table. Full explanation on what this is click here.

It’s those moments when I get ‘wow’ from people on how doTERRA’s oils have a fantastic effect on them reminds me of why I share my experiences on this blog site.

Aromatouch is a truly relaxing sensation but it’s not until after or sometimes the next day that the true benefits appear. Both family members slept great that night and both could not believe the improvement not only on their necks, but their overall feeling of wellness. That is the true power of doTERRA oils, these are therapeutic grade oils and not just your average oil burning variety.

There is one essential oil out of the eight that I applied during the aromatouch session that I feel helped my guests. The Deep Blue Blend – research on the effect that Deep Blue has on human cells showed that pre-inflamed skin cells were exposed to Deep Blue essential oil blend while others were left alone.

I know this sounds a bit pushy, but I had another guest visiting with his son this weekend (yes full house!!) who like me suffers from asthma, I diffused peppermint oil into his bedroom before he went to bed and let it run for an additional two hours. He noticed a significant change not only in his breathing quality, but also his young son who was suffering from a cold.

I like to think I spoil my guests!

Choose to Diffuse Challenge

Forbes rated event management one of the most stressful jobs in 2016, taxi drivers came in as no.10 and military personnel at no.1. It seemed fitting to invite a very busy team of event managers and coordinators from a company called Best Case Scenario to participate in SpOIL You’s ‘Choose to Diffuse’ Challenge.

The team based in Sydney, Australia were keen to participate, the founder of Best Case Scenario, Luli Adeyemo has a personal interest in health as well as a responsibility to her clients to ensure her team are kept motivated, engaged and happy. She was very much up for the challenge. She chose to purchase the doTERRA Petal diffuser along with Peppermint, Lavender and Lemon essential oils.

The diffuser’s ultra-fine mist reaches up to 330 sq. feet, so the size was ideal.  Once the essential oils and diffuser reached the Sydney office a ‘Diffuser Champion’ was appointed, someone who was responsible for turning on the diffuser, and ensuring the following guidelines were followed.

Overall results
The results were positive, with 75% of employees indicating they would choose to continue to diffuse essential oils in the workplace once the challenge finished.
